Signs

Violet never stopped dancing. She was told to several times, but that did not stop her. She danced as nobody was watching. Nobody ever did. She was told it is wrong to be curious and express emotions. That being sad and showing sadness makes you weak.

She was told she is a rebel. She was labelled a rebel because she found courage to protest mistreatment and to speak her mind. Her parents once told her they own her, they own her hair, clothes she wears and therefore have a right to say what she should look like. Her mother cut her hair in a way she did not like, was not her style and made schoolmates fun of her. She felt like she was her parents project, an object. And object that you can transform according to your preferences. Object don't receive love and care. Who loves and cares for a box in the corner anyway?

She was always one of those who believed in signs. She saw them everywhere. She saw and heard them in her sleep. Since she could remember, she had very vivid dreams. Some dreams were about her dancing with an umbrella in the rain. Those were her favourite. Dancing in the forest under big trees was her happy place. She loved big and old trees. Those old trees with scars that looked tired but still standing high and strong were her favourite. Every time she came close to one, she felt an urge to hug it. She told them all her secrets, crushes, desires and fears. She felt safe talking to them, because she knew those mighty trees are on her side. She put her trust into them. She had a feeling those big trees are there to protect her. Those big and heavy branches felt like big gentle arms offering a hug and comfort.

There is a lake Violet now visits every morning. She loves morning light and various colours reflecting in the lake. Ducks are there every morning, enjoying the sun slowly rising above the water. Violet loves watching them. They are always together, as a family. They wait for each other, if one duck is slow, they will not leave it behind. They protect each other. What Violet sees is pure love. It is simple, uncomplicated and genuine. Their swimming looks like a dance.

A morning dance to celebrate a new day and to welcome the sunlight.

Ducks became Violet's new sign. Sign for light and hope. Seeing ducks there every morning gives Violet opportunity to see and search for light and hope on stormy days.

Violet, where does this sign take you?

It takes me dancing, she says.
